Keeping Your Jumping Spider β the Basics
Jumping spiders (Salticidae) are hardy, inquisitive, and among the easiest arachnids to keep β a few basics make a big difference.
- Housing: a small, well-ventilated enclosure with more height than floor space suits their jumping, climbing nature. Include leaves, cork bark, or twigs to climb and build silk retreats in.
- Temperature & humidity: most popular pet species do well at room temperature (20β26Β°C) with moderate humidity. Light misting every few days is usually enough.
- Feeding: appropriately sized live prey 2β3 times a week. Only offer what will be eaten within a day or two.
- Handling: can be handled briefly but don’t require it β best enjoyed as observation pets. Always handle over a soft, enclosed surface.
- Settling in: give your new spider a few quiet days to settle before offering food or handling. It’s normal for them to hide initially.
